Why We Founded
Charleston Shade & Shelter
Charleston Shade & Shelter was built on a simple idea: great products deserve knowledgeable guidance, skilled installation, and dependable service.
A Career Built Around Technology
Long before entering the outdoor living industry, I spent my career working with technologies where precision, reliability, and sound decision-making mattered. I began in operations and customer service within the financial technology industry before moving into the emerging field of cardiac electrophysiology, where I worked alongside physicians, biomedical engineers, and researchers evaluating new technologies and helping bring them into clinical practice.
What Cardiac Electrophysiology Taught Me
During that time, I co-authored a research poster presented at the American Federation for Clinical Research (AFCR) examining the risks and benefits of antiarrhythmic drug therapy. Our analysis independently anticipated findings that were later confirmed by a landmark clinical trial, which was stopped early because of adverse outcomes in patients receiving drug therapy. Those findings fundamentally changed the treatment of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death and accelerated the adoption of implantable defibrillators as the standard of care.
As implantable defibrillator technology continued to evolve, I also worked with the American Heart Association to improve the usability of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), helping make life-saving technology more intuitive and accessible.
Those experiences shape the way I approach every project today. The best technology only delivers its full value when people understand it, trust it, and have the right team standing behind it.

When I began evaluating motorized screen systems, I approached them the same way I had evaluated technology throughout my career. After comparing products, installation methods, warranties, and long-term performance, MagnaTrack was the clear choice.
I founded Charleston Shade & Shelter to bring that same approach to the outdoor living industry: listen first, educate honestly, recommend thoughtfully, and stand behind every project long after the installation is complete.

As Charleston Shade & Shelter grew, MagnaTrack introduced me to Adolfo Levi, recognizing that our experience and shared commitment to quality would complement one another.
Adolfo is a licensed General Contractor, architect, and one of the industry's most experienced MagnaTrack installation specialists. Throughout his career, he has selected products that meet his high standards for reliability, ease of operation, quality materials, and long-term performance. After evaluating the available motorized screen systems, MagnaTrack became the system he chose to install for his own clients and stand behind with confidence.
While we operate independent businesses, we work together as one team on every Charleston Shade & Shelter project. Adolfo brings decades of construction knowledge, architectural expertise, and technical installation experience. I focus on understanding our clients' goals, guiding them through the design process, coordinating each project, and ensuring every client receives clear communication from the first conversation through the final walkthrough.
